Individual marking and recapture Oir

Individual marking and recapture

A capture-mark-recapture programme has been running on the Oir since 1993. This programme is based on the individual monitoring of a section of a population in order to obtain reliable information not only on the behaviour of individual fish but also on the dynamics of the population as a whole. Individual identification is achieved using a specific marking method that assigns a unique code to each marked fish. Animals caught for the first time are tagged and monitored throughout their lives through several recapture events, during which their presence is recorded. On the River Oir, individual capture-mark-recapture programmes using PIT tags are being implemented on populations of eels, salmon and trout.
