Bresle

The Bresle River is a coastal river in Normandy, that originates in the Seine-Maritime department and flows into the Channel at the town of Le Tréport.

la Bresle

The main course of the Bresle River is 72 km long and it drains a catchment area of approximately 748 km². The river originates in the commune of Criquiers (76) during periods of low groundwater levels.

When groundwater levels are higher, the river may resurface some 1,100 metres further upstream in the Oise department, in the town of Blargies.

The regime flow  of the Bresle River is profoundly influenced by the chalk aquifer, which acts as one of its drains. Through its regulating role, the aquifer gives the river a regular flow regime with sustained low water levels and mild floods.
