Rennes - PEARL

Rennes-Le Rheu - PEARL

The PEARL facilities are spread over two sites: in Rennes and in Le Rheu.

- In Rennes, an experimental complex including basins, greenhouses, halls, mesocosm plateau, is based on the Institut Agro site.

- In Le Rheu, there is a Ponds station consisting of about thirty bodies of water.

The PEARL system allows research to be carried out on continental, lotic and lentic aquatic environments (streams, ponds, ponds...), as well as on the organisms, populations or communities that inhabit them.

The different tools and know-how developed on PEARL allow working in contexts of increasing complexity (from crystallizers to natural environments via aquariums, mesocosms or ponds) and this at different scales according to the individual continuum-population-community, ecosystems.

The set of tools (mesocosms, channels, artificial spawning grounds, air-conditioned chambers, etc.) favours an experimental approach to certain phases of the biological cycle of the studied organisms. It allows to address the functioning of aquatic ecosystems and to evaluate the impact of anthropization on these environments. Some of these facilities are particularly suitable for ecotoxicology research.
