These facilities, dedicated to experimentation on migratory fish, more particularly on the biology (growth, physiology, genetics) and behavior of species (dispersal, reproduction, migration), are spread over two distant sites :

  • The experimental river Lapitxuri and its facilities located in the town of d'Aïnhoa are dedicated to the study of the reproductive behavior of salmonids.
  • The Technical platform  located on the site of the Aquapôle de St-Pée-Sur-Nivelle includes several original tools dedicated to experimentation.

The main species concerned by the work carried out on these facilities in controlled or semi-natural environments are Atlantic salmon, common trout and juvenile eel (civelle). All stages of development can be studied under a variety of conditions, ranging from the fully experimental environment (chronotrons, fluviarium) to quasi-natural conditions (Lapitxuri spawning channel). A large number of parameters can be measured and tracked at various temporal and spatial resolutions, thanks to the many possibilities for tool layouts/modulations (fish density, habitat diversity, depth and speed, etc.) and to the numerous sensors present on them (temperature, brightness, physical chemistry, flow rates, etc.).
