Salmon and climate change : IBASAM

IBASAM (Individual Based Atlantic Salmon Model)

The IBASAM model simulates changes in salmon populations under scenarios of climate change and fishing pressure.

It is an individual-centred demographic-genetic model built using pattern-oriented modelling that represents the salmon life cycle.

IBASAM represents alternative salmon demographic tactics through response norms and evolutionary trade-offs; reproductive strategies through selective mating patterns; and the genetic transmission of traits that govern response norms and growth.

It represents environmental effects (in freshwater and marine environments) on individual survival rates and growth, the latter of which influences life-history choices and survival of salmon. It also represents fishing pressure, which can be selective. IBASAM summarises and uses individual-level knowledge and data acquired by the ORE DiaPFC.
