Oir River individual tagging and recapture

Oir River individual tagging and recapture

Dispositif Pêche électrique

A capture-tagging-recapture programme has been conducted on the Oir River since 1993. It is used to monitor a segment of a population to obtain information on the behaviour of individual fish and the dynamics of the entire population. A marking method assigns a unique code to identify individual fish. Individuals captured for the first time are tagged and monitored throughout their lives in several recapture events, during which their presence is recorded. In the Oir River, individual capture-mark-recapture programmes using PIT tags are applied to populations of eel, salmon and trout.
