About us

The objective of the Research Observatory on Diadromous Fish in Coastal Rivers (ORE DiaPFC) is to study changes in migratory fish populations in response to environmental changes (both global and local) affecting the watercourses they inhabit.

The ORE DiaPFC focuses on diadromous fish (salmon, trout, eels, shad, lampreys, etc.). These species, which have been severely weakened by human activity, are a key component of the biodiversity of coastal rivers. These are now the main refuges for many of these fish, whose numbers have declined significantly in larger river systems.
 

The ORE focuses on four coastal rivers along the Atlantic Channel coast: the Bresle River and the Oir River in Normandy, the Scorff River in Brittany and the Nivelle River in the Basque Country. These four rivers, equipped with monitoring stations for migratory fish, have been subject to regular biological and physico-chemical monitoring since the early 1980s.

These watercourses are complemented by experimental facilities in Rennes and Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle. The system is rounded out by individual-centred genetic simulation tools for experimentation on virtual populations.
